Barrels require special machine tools to be machined. The inside of the barrel not being machined precisely disrupts efficiency and causes temperature fluctuations. In some systems working with hard materials, the tool steel layer placed on steel provides resistance against corrosion and wear.

The braking and driving channels made for the hard-to-feed thermoplastic granule materials play an important role in the provision of high efficiency. The grooves opened in the cooler and the barrel shall bring the high efficiency with them.

Barrel material selection and dimensioning:

As barrel material 1.8509 (41CrAlMo7) or 1.8550 (34CrAlNi7) material can be used. Alternatively 1.2379 cold work tool steel is utilised. The customer is provided with the quality certificate of the material used and thermal treatment analysis report.

Barrel dimensions :

•  Internal Radius : 25- 250 (mm)

•  Length : 6000 (mm)

Thermal treatment :

900 – 1000 HV surface hardness and 0,5 mm depth of hardness is provided by the special reaction with Nitrogen (N) and ammoniac (NH3 ) gases in special ovens lasting 72 hours.
